Safari Pad

I was reading a couple of interesting posts on Mac Rumors concerning the origins of the iPhone. The first from the New York Times stated that the iPhone began life as tablet device called the Safari Pad.
The second earlier post commented on an article from Wired which gave some of the history of this “tablet“.
With the release of the Asus Eee PC and the Everex Cloudbook it does make you wonder if Apple will take this early development work and release a similar sized device featuring multi-touch.
