An interesting new app has been added to the iPhone App Store – a heart monitor. It uses the built in microphone or the microphone in the headsphones to record your heart beat from your neck, chest or wrist.

It says that the iPhone Heart Monitor shouldn’t be used for medical applications but it looks like it would be ideal for sports people to keep track of their heart rate before during or after a work out.

Apple are still working on a cut & paste feature for the iPhone. They were able to produce the feature for the Newton 15 years ago so you would think that they could implement something similar for the iPhone.

After making a number of Apple predictions in the last few weeks it looks as if Kevin Rose has moved onto doing reviews of iPhone apps. His first review is of Enigmo, a 3D puzzle game by Pangea Software.

Well I have been fortunate to have actually remembered and used the new Simplify Media over the last two weeks. All I can say is amazing! I have about 25,000 songs in our home iTunes account…things get added daily and it is a bit daunting to keep up. I have about 4 GB on my phone, which I listen to everyday commuting to/from work. It was relatively painless to start using the SM product. I just accessed the software and was able to view all playlists we had created, as well as the slices of albums, genres and songs.

Each time I had no problem accessing the library, it took only a few seconds for the music to start playing. Now I can access the 9000 songs that are a part of my world music collection. It has also alerted me to some clean-up that I need to do to make sure naming conventions are consistent to make it easier to access a group or a collection. I only had a few glitches when the music stopped and then then took about minute to ‘buffer’ and start again. I accessed the library via wifi at work.

I attempted on no less than 3 occasions accessing the library while driving and from a few stationary but non-wifi accessible places (using only my edge network). I wasn’t successful and for the most part I wasn’t overly upset about it.

I am still thrilled with being able to have access to my iTunes and to share it with family and friends. Also, I don’t want nor need to have my entire iTunes library on my phone, so having it centrally located but readily accessible is acceptable for me.

A possible solution for the iPhone cut & paste has been proposed by OpenClip. They will offer a solution that will allow cut & paste between supported applications.

The process is suposed to be within the rules of the iPhone SDK, so now we have to wait and see if developers will embrace it and if Apple will allow it or release their own solution.

Simplify Media have released an application for the iPhone and iPod Touch that will allow you to stream you home iTunes library to you mobile device.

To get started download the Simplify Media Mac client to your home computer and install the iPhone app on your mobile device. Your home computer should show up as a streaming source. You will also be able to connect to up to 30 of your friends who have the software installed.

The Mac client is a free download, while the iPhone App is $3.99.

GTS World Racing is an arcade style racing game from Astraware. You control the game by tilting the iPhone left or right to steer your car, tilting forward accelerates your car and the brakes are applied by tilting the iPhone back. It looks like it could be a lot of fun to play.

When it is released it will be $7.99.

I must have missed this when it was first posted over a week ago. We have Walt Mossberg, the Wall Street Journal Tech Guru, talking about the iPhone App store and ten of his favorite apps. It may be a little out of date as new apps have been added to the store but its interesting to hear Mossberg’s thoughts on the iPhone and the new apps.
