In January 2007 Steve Jobs set the target of selling 10 million iPhones in 2008. At this weeks release of Apples financial results it was revealed tht this target had been hit with 2 months of the year remaining. Apple sold 6.8 million iPhone 3G’s in the last quarter and this combined with sales of the original iPhone added up to the required number.
In separate news AT&T revealed that in the 3rd quarter they activated 2.4 million iPhone 3G’s, approximately 40% of which were new wireless customers.
“I am particularly pleased with the customer response to the iPhone 3G,” said Randall Stephenson, AT&T chairman and chief executive officer. “The new customers we’re winning are high-value, with attractive revenue and churn profiles.
